Choosing a Gear Reducer for Your Pump

Every unit here uses a 2.2 to 1 ratio. Your engine spins at roughly 3,400 RPM, the gearbox cuts that to about 1,540 at the pump shaft. That is the same neighborhood belt drive pumps run at, and it is why both setups routinely outlast direct drive pumps by a wide margin. Slower strokes mean less heat in the packings and less pounding on the valves.

Gear drive beats belt drive on three points. It is compact, so it fits skids and trailers where a belt frame will not. It is sealed, so road grit and wash water never touch the drive. And there is no belt to tension, dress, or throw mid-job. The tradeoffs are real too. A gearbox costs more up front, and when one finally gives up you replace it rather than rebuild it on the tailgate. A belt is a $20 roadside fix. A gearbox is not.

Fitment comes down to three checks. Engine shaft size, and these fit a 1" shaft. Engine horsepower, since the YGR1000 handles 11 to 18 HP while the YGR1000P is rated to 24 HP.
