Ordering the Right Reel Swivel

A hose reel swivel is bought by its two thread ends. One end plumbs to your supply side, the other feeds the reel drum. Pull the old swivel and read both ends, male or female, 3/8" or 1/2" pipe thread. The four Centurion configurations cover the common combinations, each at $122.74 and available for pre-order:

Why swivels die early: winter is the big one. Water trapped in the swivel freezes, expands, and splits the seals, so blow reels out before the first hard frost. The other killer is sideways load. How can I tell the reel swivel is what leaks?

Watch the hub while the machine is at pressure. If water beads or sprays from the center joint where the plumbing enters the drum, that is the swivel. A leak out along the wrapped hose is a hose or fitting problem instead.

Match the thread ends of the one coming off. Both ends are either 3/8" or 1/2" pipe thread, male or female. If the markings are gone, bring it in or call with a photo and we will identify it.

Is a hose reel swivel the same as a gun swivel?

No. A gun swivel is a small inline unit that stops wand hose from twisting in your hand. A reel swivel is the structural joint the whole drum rotates on, built to take side load and constant pressure cycling.

Can I stop the leak by tightening the swivel?

Usually not. The leak comes from worn internal seals, not loose threads, and overtightening can crack the body. Replace the swivel or rebuild it if a seal kit exists for your model.
