Hypro Filter Parts
A five dollar screen is the only thing standing between the grit in your supply water and a pump rebuild. This is our full stock of Hypro filter parts and General Pump equivalents: stainless mesh screens, clear replacement bowls, and o-rings for the standard clear bowl line strainer. Not sure which screen fits your filter body? Call 301-519-9274 and read us the size stamped on the ports.
How to Match Hypro Filter Parts to Your Strainer
The clear bowl line strainer design used by Hypro and General Pump comes in five common port sizes: 1/2", 3/4", 1", 1-1/4", and 1-1/2". Screens and bowls are shared across size pairs, so a 1/2" and 3/4" filter take the same screen, and the 1" through 1-1/2" bodies take the larger one. Measure the pipe thread on the inlet, or just check the number molded into the housing. That one measurement tells you which screen, bowl, and o-ring you need. Buy the wrong diameter and the screen either rattles loose in the bowl or will not seat at all.
50 Mesh vs 80 Mesh Screens
Mesh count is holes per inch, so a higher number means a finer screen. A 50 mesh screen stops particles down to about 300 microns and is the standard spec most pump makers call out for pressure washer inlets. An 80 mesh screen tightens that to roughly 180 microns and earns its keep on tank fed and trailer setups, where rust flakes and tank sediment ride along in the draw line. The tradeoff is real: finer mesh clogs sooner and a starved inlet cavitates the pump, which chews up valves and packings faster than dirty water ever would. On clean city water, run 50 mesh and inspect it monthly. Drawing from a buffer tank or a well? Step up to 80 mesh and check it weekly.
Bowls and O-Rings: The Parts People Forget
The clear bowl is there so you can see the screen without tools. Over time UV and chemical exposure haze the plastic and stress cracks form at the threads, usually right after an overtightening. If your bowl weeps at the joint, replace the o-ring first. It costs under three bucks and cures most leaks. If the bowl itself is crazed or yellowed to the point you cannot see the screen, swap the bowl. Hand tighten only. Channel locks on a filter bowl are how most of these get cracked in the first place.

From the Field
Look at what sells in this category and the story writes itself. Screens and o-rings outsell complete filter assemblies by a wide margin, because the housings basically never wear out. The guys who spend the least here are the ones who pull the bowl every Friday, rinse the screen backwards under a tap, and eyeball the o-ring while it is apart. The expensive visits start with "my machine keeps losing pressure" and end with us finding a screen so packed with sand it collapsed into the bowl. A collapsed screen dumps everything it was holding straight into the pump. If a screen is dented or torn, do not clean it and reinstall it. Replace it. It is the cheapest part on the whole machine.

Frequently Asked Questions
What mesh screen should I use on a pressure washer inlet?
Most pump manufacturers spec 50 or 60 mesh for the inlet side. That is fine for city water. If you draw from a tank or well, run 80 mesh to catch the finer sediment, and clean it more often since finer screens load up faster.
What does mesh size mean in microns?
Mesh is wires per inch, so higher numbers are finer. As a working reference, 50 mesh passes particles up to about 300 microns and 80 mesh cuts that to roughly 180 microns. Sand grains and rust flakes sit right in that range, which is why these two sizes dominate pressure washing.
How do I know which replacement screen fits my filter?
Go by the port size of the filter body. The 1/2" and 3/4" housings share one screen size, and the 1" through 1-1/2" housings share the larger sizes. The port size is molded into the housing on most Hypro and GP strainers. If it is worn off, measure the thread and call us.
Why does my clear bowl filter leak?
Nine times out of ten the o-ring is flattened, nicked, or missing after a cleaning. Replace it for a couple dollars before blaming the bowl. If the bowl has spider cracks near the threads, it was overtightened and needs replacement. Bowls should only ever be hand tight.
How often should I clean the strainer screen?
On municipal water, pull and rinse it monthly. On tank or well feeds, make it part of your weekly routine. Rinse from the outside in so trapped debris backs out the way it came. A screen you can see through is a screen that is working.
Do these parts fit both Hypro and General Pump strainers?
The clear bowl line strainer pattern is shared across both brands in the common sizes, and the GP screens, bowls, and o-rings here follow that pattern. Match the port size and mesh count and you are in business. Unsure? Call 301-519-9274 with the number on your housing and we will cross it.
