Garden Hose Parts
Every pressure washer job starts at the spigot, and a cracked washer or split supply hose can shut down a rig that cost thousands. Sun Brite Supply carries garden hose washers, menders, GHT adapters, backflow preventers, and inlet filters at our Gaithersburg, MD counter. Need to know which fitting bridges your hose to your pump? Call 301-519-9274 and describe the two ends. We will name the part before you hang up.
How Garden Hose Parts Keep a Pressure Washer Running
The supply side gets ignored until it fails. A pressure washer pump expects full, steady flow at the inlet. A leaking coupling, a kinked cheap hose, or a clogged filter screen starves the pump, and a starved pump cavitates. Cavitation chews up packings and valves fast, so a 35 cent washer really does protect a 900 dollar pump. The parts on this page cover the whole run from the customer's spigot to your pump inlet.
Garden Hose Thread Basics
Standard garden hose thread (GHT) is 3/4 inch with 11.5 threads per inch. It is a straight thread, not tapered, which means the threads never seal anything. The rubber washer inside the female end does all the sealing. Two rules follow from that. First, never crank a garden hose connection with a wrench, hand tight against a good washer is a full seal. Second, skip the thread tape. Tape belongs on tapered pipe threads (NPT), and it does nothing on GHT except shed shreds into your inlet screen.
GHT and Pipe Thread Do Not Mix
Your pump inlet is pipe thread, usually 1/2 or 3/4 NPT. Your supply hose is GHT. They will not join without an adapter, and forcing them ruins both parts. That is what the FGH swivel adapters in this collection are for. A 3/4 FGH swivel by 3/4 FPT fitting threads onto the pump inlet once, then the swivel end spins freely so you can connect the hose without twisting it. The versions with an extra 1/4 FPT port give you a spot for a gauge or a chemical injector feed without adding a tee.
Size the Supply Hose to Your Machine
A 5/8 inch homeowner hose feeds a 2.5 GPM electric machine fine. Put it on a 4 GPM commercial rig and the pump runs hungry, especially past 50 feet. For anything at 4 GPM or more, run 3/4 inch hose and keep the run as short as the job allows. Our professional 50 foot and 100 foot hoses are built for daily contractor abuse, with thick walls that resist kinking when a truck tire parks on them. Cheap hoses collapse under suction long before they burst.
Fix the Hose, Not the Budget
A sliced hose does not go in the dumpster. Cut out the damaged section and install a mender. A 3/4 FGH swivel by 3/4 barb rebuilds the female end, and a 3/4 MGH by barb rebuilds the male end. Clamp it, and the repaired hose outlives most new bargain hoses. At around six bucks a mender, repairing a 100 foot pro hose instead of replacing it saves you real money.

From the Field
Look at what sells here and the story writes itself. Washers and washer filters outsell everything else in this collection, because rubber washers dry out, crack, and vanish in the grass every season. Buy them ten at a time and keep a strip in the truck door. The Duraview repair kits and clear covers we stock tell you the other half: contractors who run clear-bowl inlet filters actually look at them, catch the sediment early, and skip the pump rebuild. And the backflow preventer is not just a code checkbox. If you downstream chemicals and the city pressure drops, that soap column can siphon backward toward the customer's supply line. A 24 dollar valve keeps you off that phone call.

Frequently Asked Questions
What thread size is a standard garden hose?
Garden hose thread (GHT) is 3/4 inch at 11.5 threads per inch. It is a straight thread that seals on a rubber washer, not on the threads themselves.
Do garden hose fittings need Teflon tape?
No. GHT seals with the washer, so tape adds nothing. Save the tape for tapered pipe threads like the NPT ports on your pump.
How do I connect a garden hose to my pressure washer pump?
Use a female garden hose swivel adapter that matches your inlet, usually 3/4 FGH swivel by 1/2 or 3/4 pipe thread. The swivel lets you tighten the hose without twisting it.
Can I repair a cut garden hose instead of replacing it?
Yes. Cut out the bad section and install a barbed mender on each side, or rebuild the damaged end with an FGH or MGH mender fitting. A repaired pro hose beats a new cheap one.
What size supply hose does a 4 GPM pressure washer need?
Run 3/4 inch hose for anything at 4 GPM or above. A 5/8 inch hose over a long run starves the pump and invites cavitation damage.
Why does my hose connection keep leaking?
Nine times out of ten the washer is worn, missing, or cracked. Swap it first. If it still drips, check for a cross-threaded or split female end and rebuild it with a mender.
Do I need a backflow preventer on my supply hose?
If you inject chemicals anywhere in your system, yes. It stops soap or bleach from siphoning back into the building's water supply if pressure drops, and many jurisdictions require one.
