Pumps Made Ready: Pre-Plumbed Pressure Washer Pumps

A bare pump is a project. A made ready pump is a repair. Every assembly in this collection leaves the bench with the unloader mounted, the bypass line plumbed, and the inlet and outlet fittings installed, so a pump swap takes an hour instead of an afternoon. Call 301-519-9274 with your engine model and old pump number and we will match the right package before you spend a dollar.

What Comes Installed on a Pre-Plumbed Pump

Made ready means the plumbing work happens at the bench, not on your trailer. A typical package starts with a triplex pump from AR or General Pump, then adds an unloader valve sized to that pump's flow, a bypass hose routed back to the inlet, a garden hose inlet fitting, and a 3/8" connection on the outlet. Several assemblies here also carry a thermal relief valve that dumps overheated water before bypass heat can cook the packings. You bolt the pump to the engine, hook up two hoses, and pull the cord.

Why plumbed beats bare for most swaps

Price a bare pump next to a plumbed one and the gap looks tempting. Then add an unloader, a bypass hose, hose barbs, clamps, an inlet fitting, thread sealant, and a second trip to the store when one thread size turns out wrong. The parts close most of the gap and the bench time closes the rest. There is a quieter cost too. An unloader mismatched to pump flow will either choke your pressure or hold the pump in hot bypass, and both mistakes shorten pump life. On a made ready unit, that matching decision was already made correctly.

Match the assembly to your engine first

Fit rules are the same as for any pump. Horizontal gas engines take 3/4" or 1" hollow shaft gas flange pumps. Vertical shaft machines need a 7/8" vertical pump like the AR RMV series. Electric motors take electric flange pumps such as the AXD series. Belt drive rigs need a solid shaft pump like the RW5535S. Then check power with the standard rule: GPM times PSI divided by 1100 should not exceed your engine horsepower. A 4 GPM, 4,000 PSI assembly wants about 13 HP or more behind it.

How the Bypass Loop and Easy Start Unloaders Work

PUMP UNLOADER trigger closed no flow to gun GUN Bypass line sends flow back to the inlet. Heat builds with every lap.

Release the trigger and the unloader diverts the pump's full flow through the bypass hose back to the inlet. The same water keeps circling, and every lap picks up heat. That is why you never let a machine sit off the trigger for more than a minute or two. Many packages in this collection use AL606EZ or AL607EZ easy start unloaders, which bleed off trapped head pressure when the engine stops. Without that relief, a recoil engine has to fight the pump on the next pull, which is how starter cords snap.

AR RMV2.5G30D pre-plumbed pressure washer pump for vertical shaft engines

From the Field

Two patterns show up at our counter again and again. First, most dead pumps did not wear out. They overheated in bypass or ran too long on dirty oil. That is exactly why so many of these packages carry a thermal relief valve or an easy start unloader, the two cheapest insurance parts in this trade. Second, plenty of people replace pumps that only needed a valve kit or packings. If your pressure faded slowly over weeks, bring the pump in before you buy. If the crankcase oil looks milky or the manifold cracked over winter, skip the autopsy and grab a made ready assembly, because by the time you re-plumb a bare pump you have saved almost nothing.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does pumps made ready mean?

A made ready or pre-plumbed pump ships with the unloader, bypass line, and fittings already installed and checked, so it bolts on as one complete unit instead of a box of loose parts.

Is the unloader preset on a plumbed pump assembly?

It arrives set close to the pump's rating, but every machine plumbs a little differently. Check output with a pressure gauge after install and adjust in small turns. Never crank the unloader down to chase pressure that a worn nozzle lost.

How do I know a made ready pump will fit my engine?

Match the shaft. Horizontal 3/4" and 1" shafts take gas flange assemblies, 7/8" vertical shafts take RMV style pumps, electric motors take electric flange pumps, and belt drives take solid shaft models. Call us with the engine model and we will confirm it.

What is an easy start unloader and do I need one?

Easy start unloaders like the AL606EZ and AL607EZ release trapped pressure when the engine shuts down. If your machine kicks back or you have ever snapped a recoil cord, that small valve is the fix.

Can I reuse my old unloader with a bare pump instead?

You can if it matches the new pump's flow and still holds spec. The trouble is that a tired unloader on a fresh pump is a common way new pumps die young. A plumbed package takes that gamble off the table.

Will you help me pick a replacement pump package?

Every day. Call 301-519-9274 with your machine's brand, engine, and old pump model. We will spec the assembly, and local customers can pick up in Gaithersburg.
