Water Brooms

Sweeping a 10 foot driveway apron with a single wand takes forever. A water broom puts three nozzles on a wheeled bar so every pass covers a full stripe of concrete or decking. We carry 12 and 16 inch brooms rated to 5000 PSI, and the counter can size the nozzles for your machine. Call 301-519-9274.

How to Set Up a Water Broom So It Actually Cleans

A water broom is simple hardware. An aluminum spray bar rides on swivel casters, three quick connect nozzle holders point down at the surface, and a 1/4 inch quick connect plug feeds it from your wand or lance. The part people get wrong is nozzle sizing. Both the 12 inch water broom and the 16 inch water broom we stock ship without nozzles, priced at $82.95, because the right tips depend on your machine.

The math works like this. Your washer is rated for one nozzle of a certain orifice size. Split that flow across three tips and each tip needs roughly one third of the orifice. Run a 4 GPM at 4000 PSI machine that calls for a number 4 tip and you want three tips near size 1.5 in a 25 or 40 degree fan. Go too small and the unloader kicks into bypass and heats your pump. Go too big and the broom just dribbles. Bring your machine's GPM and PSI rating to the counter or check our nozzle selection and we will match the set.

Where a broom beats a surface cleaner is rinse work and delicate flatwork. Wood decks, composite decking, pool aprons, and vehicle undercarriage rinsing all favor the broom because the casters hold the nozzles at a fixed height and the fan tips spread pressure instead of concentrating it. For heavy grime on big concrete, a surface cleaner is still the faster tool. Plenty of crews carry both and use the broom to rinse behind the surface cleaner.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do water brooms come with nozzles?

Ours do not, and that is on purpose. Nozzle orifice size has to match your machine's flow split across three tips. A pre-nozzled broom sized for a 3 GPM machine will choke an 8 GPM rig. We size the tips to your washer when you order.

How much GPM does a water broom need?

These brooms run well between 3 and 8 GPM. More flow means a wider effective rinse and faster forward speed. Under 3 GPM the three streams get weak enough that a single wand often cleans better.

Will a water broom strip sealer or damage a wood deck?

It is one of the safer tools for decking because the casters keep a fixed standoff and the fan nozzles spread the hit. Damage still comes down to tip choice. Use 40 degree tips and moderate pressure on wood, and test a board first.

Water broom or surface cleaner for a driveway?

For caked grime on concrete, the surface cleaner wins on speed and consistency. The broom earns its spot for rinsing, decks, and tight edges where a spinning bar throws water where you do not want it.
