Udor Pumps

Udor Pumps

Ask a soft wash crew what pump survives bleach duty and long idle winters, and Udor comes up fast. These Italian-built triplex pumps run ceramic plungers in forged brass heads and carry a five year factory warranty, which is longer than most rigs keep the same engine. Sun Brite Supply carries Udor pumps in gear drive, solid shaft, and electric flange mounts, along with the seal kits and plungers to rebuild them. Call 301-519-9274 and we will confirm the right model for your setup before you order.

Reading Udor Pump Model Numbers

Udor model codes look cryptic until you know the pattern. The letters name the series, the numbers give flow and pressure, and the suffix tells you how the pump mounts. The suffix is the part that decides whether the pump bolts to your rig or goes back in the box.

  • -S means a 24mm solid shaft for belt drive setups, turning around 1450 to 1750 RPM off pulleys.
  • -W means a 1" hollow shaft that slips over a gas engine crankshaft for direct drive at 3400 RPM.
  • -GR means a factory gear drive. The gearbox bolts to the engine and cuts pump speed roughly in half, no belts or pulleys to align.
  • -U means a 1 1/8" hollow shaft with a NEMA flange for electric motor builds at 1750 RPM.

So a BKC 15/30-S and a BKC 15/30-GR are the same 4 GPM, 4000 PSI pump inside. One wants a belt. The other bolts straight to the engine with a gearbox between them.

Why Gear Drive Is Worth a Look

Gear drive gives you the pump longevity of belt drive without the belt maintenance. The gearbox drops pump speed to roughly half of engine speed, so plungers and packings see the same easy duty as a belt setup, but the package stays as compact as direct drive and nothing slips or needs tensioning. The tradeoff is price. A gear drive Udor runs $400 to $500 more than the same pump in solid shaft form. Crews that run every day usually make that back in packing life and skipped belt changes.

What You Get for the Money

Udor builds these pumps with solid ceramic plungers, one-piece alloy connecting rods, oversized tapered roller bearings, and anodized cooling fins on the crankcase. The practical result is a pump that tolerates heat and chemical duty that kills cheaper hardware. Just as important, every wear part is available separately. Plungers come in 15, 18, 20, 25, and 28mm sizes, and seal kits cover the P and M series, so a worn Udor gets rebuilt on a bench in an afternoon instead of replaced.

From the Field

The Udor rebuilds that cross our counter tell one story: these pumps rarely die from work, they die from neglect. The seal kits we sell go to pumps that ran low on oil or sat all winter with water in the head. Two habits prevent both. Watch the sight glass, and if the oil turns milky, change it and find the leak before the crankcase corrodes. And before the first freeze, pull antifreeze through the pump or drain it dry. A $98 seal kit fixes worn packings. A cracked brass head from freeze damage totals the pump. If your Udor is down, bring it in and we will tell you honestly whether it needs a kit or a replacement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who makes Udor pumps and where?

Udor builds its triplex plunger and diaphragm pumps in Italy and backs them with a five year factory warranty. They compete directly with CAT, General Pump, and AR at the commercial end of the market.

Are Udor pumps good for soft washing?

Yes, and that is where their reputation grew. The brass heads and ceramic plungers tolerate downstream chemical exposure well, and the low-RPM belt and gear drive models hold up to the long hours a house wash route puts on a pump.

What is the difference between gear drive and belt drive Udor pumps?

Both spin the pump at roughly half engine speed for longer life. Gear drive bolts the pump to the engine through a gearbox, saving space and belt maintenance. Belt drive costs less and isolates the pump from engine vibration. Pick gear drive for compact skids, belt drive for budget builds.

What do the letters after an Udor model number mean?

The suffix is the mount: -S is a 24mm solid shaft for belts, -W is a 1" hollow shaft for gas engine direct drive, -GR is factory gear drive, and -U is a NEMA flange hollow shaft for electric motors.

Can I still get parts for an older Udor pump?

Almost always. Seal kits, valve kits, and plungers from 15mm to 28mm remain available for the common series. Bring the model plate or a photo and we will match the kit.

What oil does an Udor pump take?

Non-detergent pump crankcase oil, changed after the first 50 hours and then on a regular schedule. Never run motor oil with detergents. The additives foam and the pump loses lubrication under load.
