Variable Nozzles for Pressure Washers
A variable nozzle does the work of a whole set of color coded tips. Twist the head to change the fan angle, slide it to drop into low pressure soap mode, and keep washing without walking back to the trailer. Sun Brite Supply carries Hi-Lo variable nozzles for pressure washing rigs in Gaithersburg, MD. Questions on sizing? Call 301-519-9274.
How a Hi-Lo Variable Nozzle Earns Its Spot on the Wand
The design is simple. Slide the nozzle head one way and you get full working pressure. Slide it the other way and the orifice opens up, pressure drops, and your downstream injector starts pulling soap. Twist the head and the pattern moves from a near pencil stream out to a wide fan. That means one nozzle covers the jobs you would normally handle with a 15 degree tip, a 25, a 40, and a black soap tip.
Where these shine is house washing and general exterior work with a downstream injector. Apply detergent in low mode, let it dwell, then flip to high mode and rinse, all without touching a quick connect coupler with wet gloves. Where they fall short is precision. A fixed orifice tip gives you an exact angle and exact pressure every time, which is why flatwork and stripping crews still run standard tips. Most contractors end up with both: a variable nozzle for chemical application days and a set of quick connect tips for everything else.
Sizing still matters. A variable nozzle has an orifice number just like a standard tip. Match it to your machine's GPM and PSI the same way you would size any nozzle, because an oversized orifice bleeds pressure even in high mode. The PA Hi-Lo variable adjustable nozzle we carry runs a 6.0 orifice with a standard 1/4 inch inlet at $22.38. Call first and we will confirm availability and check the orifice against your machine before you order.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does a Hi-Lo variable nozzle work?
Sliding the head switches between a high pressure stream and a wide low pressure spray, and twisting it adjusts the fan angle. One nozzle replaces several fixed tips plus a soap tip.
Will a variable nozzle pull soap through my downstream injector?
Yes. Sliding into low pressure mode drops line pressure enough for the injector to draw chemical, the same way a black soap tip does. Slide back to high mode to rinse.
What orifice size variable nozzle do I need?
Size it exactly like a fixed tip, using your machine's GPM and PSI. Run the orifice too big and you lose pressure in high mode. Call 301-519-9274 with your machine specs and we will size it for you.
Should I use a variable nozzle or quick connect tips?
Use the variable nozzle for soap and rinse work where you change patterns constantly. Keep fixed tips for surface cleaning and precision work that needs an exact angle and pressure. Most rigs carry both.
