How to Size 1/8" MEG Nozzles

MEG nozzles thread straight into the fixture instead of snapping into a quick coupler. The 1/8 inch male pipe thread is the standard on most surface cleaner spray bars and water broom manifolds, while wands usually take the bigger 1/4" MEG size. Same numbering system, different thread. Grab the wrong one and it rattles loose or never seats.

Reading the Number on the Nozzle

Every MEG nozzle carries a four or five digit code. The first two digits are the fan angle and the rest is the orifice number. A 2503 sprays a 25 degree fan through a number 3 orifice. The orifice number equals the GPM that nozzle flows at 4,000 PSI. Bigger orifice, more flow and less pressure. Smaller orifice, more pressure until you choke the machine. Find your machine total on a nozzle chart first. A 4 GPM, 4,000 PSI machine wants a number 4 orifice in total. On a two nozzle bar that is a pair of number 2 tips. An 8 GPM machine running two nozzles takes two number 4 tips. If the division lands between sizes, round up. A slightly larger orifice costs you a little pressure. A smaller one overloads the pump and unloader, and those parts cost real money. Streaks in your flatwork usually mean worn or mismatched tips, not a bad machine.
