General Pumps

Walk any pressure washing trade show lot and count the General Pump heads bolted to the rigs. Interpump's American arm earned that spot with triplex plunger pumps that rebuild cheap and run for years. Sun Brite Supply sells the full General Pump line, from EZ direct drives to 21 GPM industrial units, plus every packing kit and plunger to keep them alive. Call 301-519-9274 and we will decode any model number for you.

General Pump Series, Decoded

General Pump model numbers look like alphabet soup until you learn the families. Once you know the series letters, picking a replacement takes two minutes.

EZ, EP, and ES: direct drive gas pumps

These bolt straight onto a gas engine with a 3/4" or 1" hollow flange shaft and spin at 3,400 RPM. The EZ series is the classic swap for 3 to 4.6 GPM machines in the 3,000 to 4,000 PSI range. EP and ES units cover similar output in a compact frame, and ES models step up to 4,000 PSI with nickel-plated heads. If your cold water skid died and you need it running by the weekend, this is the shelf you shop.

TS, TSS, and TSF: the belt drive workhorses

The TS family runs at 1,450 RPM on a 24mm solid shaft, which is why these pumps show up on machines with a decade of service behind them. The TS2021 makes 5.6 GPM at 3,500 PSI and is the default engine-room choice for full-time flatwork. The TSF series trades pressure for flow, 7 to 12 GPM at 2,500 to 3,600 PSI, which is exactly what house washing and soft wash crews want. TSS models add fine-thread valve caps and accept jetter valve conversions for drain work.

TSP, TT, and the big iron

TSP pumps push 5,100 to 7,250 PSI for surface prep and water jetting, like the TSP1621 rated 4.3 GPM at 6,525 PSI. The TT series covers small electric machines with 5/8" and 3/4" electric flange shafts around 1,500 to 2,000 PSI. At the top sits gear like the HTCK3623S, 21 GPM at 1,500 PSI for wash-down and industrial flow work.

Sizing the Pump to the Engine

General Pump's own math for gas engines works out close to HP = (GPM x PSI) / 1100. A 13 HP engine runs a 4 GPM, 4,000 PSI pump at its limit. An 8 GPM TSF2021 wants 26 HP or more and a gear reduction or belt setup to bring pump speed down to its rated RPM. Overdriving a pump past its rated speed is the fastest way to void a warranty and cook the packings, so check the RPM on the data plate before you buy pulleys.

From the Field

Our General Pump parts sales tell the maintenance story better than any manual. Packing kits like Kit 309 and the 18mm packing sets outsell everything, because packings are the wear item and heat is what kills them. Long bypass runs and dry starts cook packings months ahead of schedule. Ceramic plunger sales spike every March, and that is freeze damage: water left in the head over winter cracks plungers when it expands. Pull the inlet plug and spin the pump dry before the first hard frost. And the steady trickle of jetter valve orders shows how many TS and TSS owners convert their pumps for drain cleaning instead of buying a second machine. A $85 valve beats a second engine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which General Pump series is best for house washing?

The TSF series. House washing and soft wash reward flow over pressure, and the TSF2021 delivers 7 to 8.5 GPM at pressures you will dial down anyway. Pair it with enough engine, 26 HP or more, and a gear box or belt drive.

What oil does a General Pump take?

General Pump specifies their Series 100 pump oil for the common 44, 47, 50, and 51 series crankcases. Change it after the first 50 hours, then every 250 to 500 hours or quarterly. Never substitute motor oil, the additives foam in a pump crankcase.

Can I rebuild a General Pump instead of replacing it?

Almost always. Packing kits, valve kits, oil seals, and ceramic plungers are available for every current series, and most rebuilds cost $80 to $330 against $600 to $1,400 for a new pump. Browse General Pump parts or call with your model number.

Why is my General Pump rattling or knocking?

That noise usually means cavitation. The pump is starving for water from a kinked supply hose, a clogged inlet filter, or an undersized feed. Fix the supply first, because running it that way chews up valves and plungers fast. If the rattle continues with a clean, full supply, check the oil level.

What is the difference between TS and TSF General Pumps?

Both are 24mm solid shaft belt drive pumps. TS models top out around 5.6 GPM and favor pressure. TSF models are the high flow line, 6.3 to 12 GPM, built for rinse speed. If your work is driveways and pads, TS. If it is siding and roofs, TSF.

Do General Pump EZ pumps fit Honda engines?

Yes. EZ series gas flange pumps slide onto the 3/4" or 1" horizontal shaft of GX200 through GX390 Honda engines and bolt to the standard flange. Match the pump's GPM and PSI to the engine's horsepower with the formula above, or call and we will match it for you.
