Hammerhead Surface Cleaners and the Swivel That Drives Them

A General Pump Hammerhead covers an 18 or 20 inch path, handles up to 4,000 PSI and water up to 180 degrees, and lays down an even finish that a wand cannot match over a big driveway or parking pad. Two spinning nozzles do the cleaning. Everything hangs off one part: the swivel at the center of the deck. It carries the bar, takes the full pump pressure, and spins a couple thousand times a minute all day. When it wears, the whole tool goes downhill.

Why is my surface cleaner leaving stripes on concrete?

Either the bar is spinning too slowly or a nozzle is partly clogged. Pull and clean both nozzles first. If striping continues with clean tips, the swivel is dragging and needs a rebuild or replacement.

Should I rebuild the swivel or replace it?

Leaks with smooth rotation usually mean o-rings, so start with a minor repair kit. Grinding, wobble, or a bar that will not spin up means the bearings are gone and the complete swivel is the fix.
