What Actually Wears Out in a Turbo Nozzle

Inside the housing, a ceramic rotor spins against a ceramic seat at several thousand RPM, driven by nothing but water. Ceramic on ceramic handles that abuse for a long time, but the parts around it give up first. O-rings harden and leak. The rotor tip chips when the nozzle gets dropped on concrete. Grit from unfiltered water scores the seat, and once the seat is scored, the cone gets ragged and pressure bleeds off. A repair kit replaces the wear set, which is the rotor, seat, springs, and o-rings depending on the model, and brings the nozzle back to its original bite.

Clean before you rebuild

Half the dead turbo nozzles that cross our counter are not dead. They are clogged. Debris jams the rotor and the nozzle sprays straight or not at all. Backflush it, work a soft wire through the inlet screen, and test again before you order parts. Two more things that mimic a worn nozzle: a machine running under roughly 2,000 PSI will not spin most rotors well, and a fouled upstream filter starves the nozzle enough to kill rotation. Rule those out first. It costs nothing.

Match the kit by brand and orifice

The number in every kit name is the orifice size, and it has to match the number stamped on your nozzle. A Dirt Killer DK-5.5 takes the 5.5 kit, not whatever is close. Install a smaller orifice than the nozzle came with and you overpressure the machine into bypass. Go bigger and the cone turns weak. If the stamp is worn off, tell us the machine's GPM and PSI and we will work backward to the size.
