X-Jet M5 Chemical Injection Nozzles

How an X-Jet Works and Why Contractors Still Use One
An X-Jet injects chemical at the nozzle instead of running it through your machine. High pressure water passing through the orifice creates suction that pulls mix up a 15 foot hose from a bucket at your feet. The soap never touches your pump, hose, unloader, or gun internals, so strong sodium hypochlorite mix does not eat your expensive parts from the inside. Lift the hose out of the bucket or flip the ball valve and you are rinsing with plain water in one second, no waiting for soap to clear the line like a downstream injector.
The trade is that the bucket travels with you around the house. Crews that hate dragging a bucket run a downstream setup instead. Crews that want the hottest mix on the wall with the least gear on the trailer keep an X-Jet in the box.
M5 or Original
The M5 has a twist-adjustable head that changes the fan from a tight stream out to roughly a 60 degree pattern, so one tool covers rinsing high gables and fanning soap across siding. The Original uses fixed patterns and throws the tightest, longest stream of the family, which is why some roof and high-reach crews still prefer it. Either style reaches around 40 feet vertically on a typical 4 GPM machine when the pattern is narrowed down. The M5DS Twist is the oddball: same adjustable head, but built to pair with a downstream injector so the mix arrives through the hose instead of a bucket.
Match the orifice to your machine
The orifice inside the X-Jet must match your flow or the venturi will not pull. The maker's sizing runs #7 for 1 to 2.8 GPM, #9 for 3 to 3.5, #13 for 4 to 4.5, #16 for 5 to 6.5, #20 for 7 to 8, and #25 above 8.5 GPM. An oversized orifice is the most common reason a new X-Jet will not draw. If you upgrade your machine, budget the $24.99 orifice swap along with it.
Getting the mix ratio right
Color coded proportioner tips restrict the chemical line to set the water to mix ratio. As a working example, 12.5 percent sodium hypochlorite drawn through a roughly 3 to 1 tip lands on the wall near 4 percent, which is stronger than most downstream setups can deliver. Actual ratios shift with your GPM and PSI, so run a bucket draw-down test once with your machine and write your real numbers on the lid. Does an X-Jet damage my pressure washer pump?
No, and that is the point. The chemical enters at the nozzle, after every component of your machine. Your pump, hose, and gun only ever see plain water, which is why X-Jets are popular with crews spraying strong bleach mixes.
How high will an X-Jet M5 spray?
Around 40 feet vertically on a typical 4 GPM machine with the pattern twisted down to a stream. Flow, pressure, wind, and pattern width all change the number. More GPM throws farther than more PSI does.
Which orifice size do I need?
