What they do well
- Flush loose leaves, shingle grit and standing water
- Clear the first few feet of downspouts
- Let you clean single-story gutters from the ground with a telescoping wand
What they do not do
- Packed, wet, composted leaves. That needs a scoop or a vacuum.
- Bird nests and roots.
- Second-story gutters from the ground without a telescoping lance and a helper to watch the spray.
Two styles
U-shaped rigid wand: bolts to your lance, curls over the gutter lip and points the nozzle down the trough. Best control and the one we sell most.
Ball or hose-end style: feeds into the downspout to clear clogs. Buy this in addition to the wand, not instead of it.
Setup
- Run a 25 or 40 degree nozzle, never 0 degree. You are moving debris, not cutting it.
- Drop pressure to 1,000-1,500 PSI. Higher pressure lifts shingles and blasts debris onto the roof.
- Start at the downspout end and work away from it so the water carries debris toward the drain.
- Keep the nozzle inside the gutter. Spraying up under the drip edge forces water behind the fascia.
Safety
Ladders and pressure washers do not mix. If you cannot reach it from the ground with a telescoping wand, rent a lift or bring in a gutter crew.
