Surface Cleaner Parts
A surface cleaner only has a handful of moving parts, and every one of them is replaceable for less than a new deck costs. Swivels, spray bars, nozzles, casters, and covers for Whirl-A-Way, General Pump, Mosmatic, and BE units all live in this collection. Machine down mid-season? Call 301-519-9274 with your deck size and brand and we will get the part moving today.
Why Surface Cleaner Parts Fail, and Which One Is Yours
Nearly every surface cleaner complaint traces to three assemblies. The swivel up top spins the bar thousands of revolutions per job while holding back full pump pressure, so its seals and bearings are the number one wear point. The spray bar and its two or three nozzles do the actual cleaning, and worn or clogged tips show up on the concrete before they show up anywhere else. The rolling gear, casters and brushes, decides whether the machine glides or fights you. Figure out which of the three is complaining and the fix is usually one part, not a new machine.
The Swivel: Heart of the Spin
When a deck stops spinning or spins lazily, most people blame the nozzles. Check the swivel first. Seals inside it wear from grit and dry starts, and once they drag, the bar cannot break loose at trigger pull. A light mist weeping from the swivel is the early warning. A steady dribble means the seals are done, and running it that way scores the shaft, which turns a cheap seal kit job into a full swivel replacement. Mosmatic swivels are rebuildable with a seal kit that costs less than a tank of gas. Budget swivels are throwaways, so the math on rebuildable units works out fast for anyone cleaning weekly. Also worth knowing: most decks need real pressure to spin properly, in the neighborhood of 2,800 PSI and up, so a tired pump can masquerade as a bad swivel.
Spray Bars and Nozzles: Where Stripes Come From
Zebra striping on a driveway means the spray patterns are no longer overlapping. Three causes, in order of likelihood: a plugged tip, a worn tip that has opened up and dropped its pressure, or a bent bar from hitting a curb or dropping the unit off a trailer. Poke a plugged tip clear with a tip cleaner, never with wire that can gouge the orifice. Worn tips are a set replacement, always both or all three at once, because mixing a new tip with an old one guarantees uneven cleaning. A visibly bent bar is not worth straightening. Bars are cheap, and a rewelded bar never runs true again.

Bars, brackets, and hardware are shelf items for us. Swivels and brand-specific pieces move fast, so call ahead and we will confirm what is here now.
From the Field
Seal kits and spray bars are the two fastest movers in this collection, and that tells you how these machines actually die. Nobody wears out a deck shell. They wear out the parts that spin and the parts that spray, then they park a $1,300 machine over a $17 seal kit. The crews with the lowest parts bills do two things. They pull the tips and check the orifices with a gauge every month, because a nozzle worn 10 percent costs you cleaning speed on every single job. And they never run the deck dry, since a swivel spinning without water for even half a minute cooks its seals. One more habit worth stealing: when a bar comes off for any reason, thread lock goes on the nozzle hardware at reinstall. Loose tips that rotate out of alignment are behind half the mystery striping we diagnose over the phone.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is my surface cleaner not spinning?
Work through it in order: pinch the trigger and check for full pressure, clear the inlet filter and nozzles, then spin the bar by hand with the unit off. If the bar drags or feels gritty, the swivel is the problem. Remember most decks want roughly 2,800 PSI or more to spin with authority, so verify the machine before condemning the cleaner.
Why does my surface cleaner leave lines?
Stripes mean the spray patterns no longer overlap. Clean or replace the tips as a set, check that the bar is straight, and confirm both nozzles sit at the same angle. On heavy grime, slow down and make a second pass before blaming the machine.
Should I rebuild my swivel or replace it?
If it is a Mosmatic or another rebuildable design, a seal kit handles the first round of wear for under twenty bucks. Replace the whole swivel when the shaft is scored or the bearings growl. Budget swivels without kits are replace-only items.
What nozzles does a surface cleaner take?
Low-angle tips, usually 25 degree, sized so the combined orifice of both tips matches your machine. A 2-nozzle bar splits your total orifice size in half per tip. Bring your GPM and PSI when you call and we will do the nozzle chart math for you.
How often should surface cleaner nozzles be replaced?
Gauge them monthly if you clean for a living. Once flow runs about 10 percent over spec, the tips are stealing pressure and slowing every job. For most full-time crews that lands somewhere between one and two seasons per set.
Is a little water leaking from the swivel normal?
A brief weep at startup is common. A steady drip while running means the seals are wearing, and running it long in that state scores the shaft. Swap the seal kit early and the swivel body lasts for years.
